SUMMARY:OSHA 510 - Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry
DESCRIPTION:This course covers the best practices in crane and derrick operation using the OSHA Cranes and Derricks in Construction Rule as a guide. This course will comprehensively address key hazards related to cranes and derricks on construction worksites\, including the four main causes of worker death and injury: electrocution\, crushed by parts of the equipment\, struck-by the equipment/load\, and falls. Participants will learn how crane accidents happen and most importantly how to prevent them. \n \nStudents will participate in hazard violation workshops to reinforce concepts of safe crane operation. \nCourse objectives: \n\nDescribe hazards related to construction crane activities\nRecognize crane types included in the OSHA standard\nRecognize crane types excluded from the OSHA standard\nDescribe various components of types of cranes including attachments\nDescribe the lifting principles of construction cranes\nIdentify the parts of Subpart CC\n\nCourse topics include: \n\nHazards associated with crane assembly and disassembly\nTypes of cranes\nLifting concepts\nRigging and wire rope\nSignaling\nEmployee qualifications and training\, and\nMaintenance\, repair\, and inspection requirements.\n\n \nPrerequisites: None \nCourse Includes: Student material\, Lunch and Refreshments for in-person classes
